How long to dehydrate blueberries

At ~135°F, blueberries run long — often many hours longer than you'd expect for something so small — and the reason is the skin. Extension guidance dries berries at 130–135°F until leathery (some methods start at 145°F while the surface is still wet, then drop to 135–140°F after the first hour). But the real variable isn't the dial, it's the waxy skin: a whole blueberry sheds water so slowly it can dry for a day and still be squishy inside. The finish line is the fruit — pliable, with no beads of moisture when you press a cooled berry — not the clock.
Crack the skins first — this is the whole trick
The single most-important step, and the one most home batches skip: dip the blueberries in boiling water for about 30 seconds to "check" (crack) the skins, then chill them quickly and blot dry before they go on the tray. Blueberries dried without checking come out puffy and hollow and take far longer, because the intact skin traps moisture inside. Halving the berries does the same job. Do one or the other and the drying time drops dramatically; skip it and no temperature setting will rescue the time.
Whole, halved, fresh, or frozen
Whole checked berries and halved berries both work — halved dry faster because the cut face is open. Frozen blueberries have an advantage here: freezing already ruptures the skin's cells, so thawed frozen berries behave like checked ones and often skip the boiling-water step. Fresh berries are the ones that most need checking. Either way the temperature is the same 135°F and the doneness test is the same press-for-moisture.
Strawberries and blueberries together
A mixed berry tray is one of the most-searched versions, and it's fine — with a caveat about pacing. Sliced strawberries have a wide-open cut face and dry faster; whole blueberries, even checked, lag behind. Put them on the same tray at the same 135°F, but pull the strawberries as they turn leathery and give the blueberries the extra time they need rather than over-drying the strawberries to make them finish together.
In a Ninja air fryer, Ninja Foodi, or oven
An air fryer or Ninja Foodi on a dehydrate setting is a small, high-airflow chamber: it can dry a thin single layer of checked or halved blueberries, but the basket holds little and a strong fan will crisp the skins while the centers stay wet if you skip the skin-checking step — so check the skins and watch the batch. An oven runs the same 135°F logic with the door propped for airflow, and because a home oven moves less air than a dehydrator it tends to run at the long end. In every case the temperature is 135°F, the skins still have to be cracked, and the finish is the press test — the machine only changes the hours.
Then condition before you store
Like all dried fruit, blueberries should be conditioned — packed loosely in a jar for several days and stirred, so any remaining moisture equalizes across the batch. If condensation shows up inside the jar, they need more drying. It's the step that decides whether a "done" batch keeps or molds.
